What Is Delta-10 THC?

Delta-10 tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ10-THC) is a cannabinoid found in extremely trace amounts in the cannabis plant. Commercial delta-10 products are manufactured synthetically, typically by isomerizing CBD extracted from compliant hemp. Like delta-8 THC, delta-10 occupies a legal gray area created by the 2018 Farm Bill's focus on delta-9 THC concentration.

Psychoactive Profile

Delta-10 THC is reported to produce milder psychoactive effects than delta-9 THC, with users commonly describing it as more stimulating and less sedating than delta-8 THC. Consumer-reported effects include heightened focus, creativity, and euphoria, though clinical research on delta-10 is essentially nonexistent.

Legal Status

The federal legal status of delta-10 THC mirrors delta-8 THC. The DEA's position — articulated in its 2020 Interim Final Rule — is that synthetically derived THC isomers are Schedule I controlled substances regardless of their hemp origin. Courts have not definitively resolved the issue, and the DEA's final rule remains pending.

State responses vary: states that have banned delta-8 typically extend those bans to delta-10 and other synthetic cannabinoids. Some state laws specifically enumerate the banned compounds; others use broader "synthetically derived" language.

Safety and Testing Concerns

Delta-10 products are rarely subject to mandatory third-party testing. Manufacturing byproducts from the isomerization process — including potentially harmful solvents and reaction intermediates — have been identified in some products. The FDA has not evaluated delta-10 safety.
